Our business began back in 1954, when new car parts were difficult to source. In those early days, David Bennett carefully dismantled older vehicles and sold quality second hand parts, with the Austin Seven becoming one of the main cars he worked on.
But one particular Austin Seven changed everything.
Built in 1931, “Pongo” was the very first car my father purchased in 1952. He bought it for just £27 from a lady who worked at a hotel where he was staying in Littlehampton, a purchase that would become part of our family history.
He loved the car so much that he simply couldn’t bring himself to break it up, and ever since then, Pongo has remained part of our story.
Over the years, the car has been restored twice and is now undergoing its third restoration with the incredible team at Harpenden Classics and Performance.
What makes Pongo even more remarkable is that it still retains its original engine and gearbox – a true piece of motoring history.
Once restored to Concours condition, we’re excited to proudly display Pongo in our Welwyn Garden City showroom alongside a plaque and photograph celebrating its journey through the generations.
From humble beginnings to preserving a cherished piece of history — Pongo represents where we started, and the passion that still drives us today.
